Criminal Trial–Extra-judicial confession–How nature of should be ?-
(i) A confession must be voluntary and truthful,
(ii) it must inspire confidence as to the person before whom and the circumstances in which, it was made,
(iii) it gains probative value only when supported by cogent corroboration and,
(iv) it must be free from inherent improbabilities or material inconsistencies.
Unless these safeguards are satisfied, an extra-judicial confession cannot safely form the basis of the conviction.
