Law of evidence–If a former statement made by a witness is to be used for the purpose of contradiction, he must be confronted with that statement and be given opportunity of explaining any discrepancies–If such opportunity is not afforded to the witness to explain the reason for this discrepancy, his present statement cannot be assailed merely by its omission in the previous statements.
