Penal Code,1860–Sec. 498-A–Whether the demand of money for the construction of a house can be deemed the demand for dowry ?–In the instant case, the respondents constantly tormented the deceased and asked her to approach her family members for money to build a house–Though she was a party to such a demand yet it was only on their persistence and insistence–Sufficient evidence on record to show that she was pressurized to make such request to her mother and uncle–It was not a case of complicity but a case of sheer helplessness faced by the deceased in such adverse circumstances–
Trial Court correctly interpreted that the demand for money raised by the respondents falls within the ambit of the definition of dowry.
