Penal Code,1860–Sec.498-A & 304-B–Scope of offences–Customary payment in connection with the birth of a child or other ceremonies prevailed in different societies do not come within the preview of dowry and if on such an occasion demand of some money or gifts is made, it cannot be deemed for dowry and if cruelty or harassment is inflicted on the women by the reason that the demand remained unfulfilled, it cannot be said that the cruelty or harassment is related to dowry within the meaning of Sec.304-B.
