Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973–Sec. 357–Compensation of Rs. 70,000–Appellant was being handcuffed by the police without being a valid reason–Undue delay in the trial–State was responsible for causing the delay as no step was taken timely–Division Bench found that there was no reason for putting the appellant under handcuff’s–Not only the dignity of the appellant was affected but also he suffered unfortunate and tragic consequences–Held, the appellant is entitled to get Rs. 2 lac as compensation.
